It started for me like for most others. I love to read and I love to travel. Simple as that. They are unequivocally my two favorite hobbies. I've been a reader for as long as I can remember. In fact, my entire family is made up of readers. We are all travelers too; partly because my dad was a pilot who traveled around the world. And no matter where I go, I always travel with a book . . . or several. The two are as essential to each other, like wine and cheese.
Books and traveling actually have a long history together. Many famous authors and historical figures were known to always bring books on their travels. Napoleon had a custom miniature traveling library created that included nearly 400 volumes. John Keats took Dante's Divine Comedy and the works of John Milton on his travels in Scotland's Lake District. And today, traveling with our own personal libraries has never been easier thanks to Kindles and other e-readers. I know I never leave home without mine. I think what I love most about traveling with a book is how they relate to each other—how they can impact my experience of each individually. Whether it is an old friend of a book or one that is brand new to me, I find that what I read affects how I experience my travels and my travels influence what I take away from a story. And so we come back round to this blog. Here I will document my travels and what I'm reading. It may be current travels, or memories of travels and the books I read on them. I'll review new books, and discuss why others are old cherished friends.
